Re: compression testing (Air_Cooled_Nut) hey i just got a compression test done on my 2.0. i was going to do it myself, but i didnt have the tool to get the two middle spark plugs out from under the intake manifold. i believe the engine should be around 180-190PSI brand new, but it isnt so much the highest pressure that you want to get, it's a matter of how close all . Cal octane in the US is 87 reg, 91 premium. Other states like Texas have 93 octane premium. Keep in mind new cars have high tech engine management to run that higher comp. A Carburated air cooled VW with higher head temps won't tolerate much comp. The margin is razor thin for detonation.
